As mentioned in the Drawing Tutorial, shading is essentially drawing several lines next to each other to create "blocks" or "patches" of color or tones. I am using the tip of my pencil to create these blocks. You may use the side of your pencil for wider lines and more solid blocks.
Notice how I'm shading pretty much where I planned in the last step.
