Step 9 - Oh Well... Finishing

At least I tried. I should have left the drawing as it was. Finishing is a matter of taste. Step back from your drawing. Prop it up and stand several feet away from it. Squint your eyes. You'll see all those shaded blocks merge and you'll be able to see if the image is balanced, if the drawing is too light, or if the face is too big for the body. Fun stuff like that.

If you don't like all the shading, you can stop. Hang the picture up in your room and force yourself to look at it everyday for a week. Don't draw on it ever again. Really.

If it bothers you and doesn't seem complete. Start a new drawing and work on your techniques all over again. If you think, "How will I ever draw that good again?" You are not alone. Some drawings seem to come out of nowhere, but if you hone your skills you can make something better in it's own way. Hang that up too. Or post it on the internet. People like that.
